Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy Week, leading up to Easter. During this time, write down some things that you will totally abstain from during Holy Week:
This is a ritual whereby many people give up something for a period of time in anticipation of a celebration of new beginnings.
Here are some things you can choose from, that you might consider giving up:
Intangible:
Winning an argument
Talking negatively about others
Lamenting missed opportunities
Resentment toward someone
Anxiety about the future
Focusing on your perceived weaknesses
Repeating gossip
Anger and resentment
Un-forgiveness
Hatred
Jealousy
Grudge
Greed
Fear
Doubt
etc.
Tangible:
– Favorite foods
– Drinks
– Meat
– Poultry
– Fast Food
– Favorite TV Shows
– Facebook
– Twitter
– Instagram
– Video Games
– Over-excessive Use of Cell Phones
– etc.
Holy Week is not about giving up something that you enjoy in an effort to somehow please God. You’re to also give up something that’s holding you back. The benefit of such a practice is that you give yourself time to create new habits which will enhance your soul’s expression and bring about great blessings, peace and joy.

Happy Holy Week!

Jesus' Body

Today is dubbed the “Resurrection Day,” because in retrospect, today would be the third day since Christ was crucified and buried, but when the women entered into the Sepulcher to search for him, he was not there! So they were confused, but two angels appeared, and said, “Why seek the living among the dead? He’s not here; but is risen!” (St. Luke 24:1-6)

Because he lives, you can face tomorrow; because he lives, your sins are forgiven and your fears are gone. Your life is worth living, just because he lives.

Happy Easter!

Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

It is very imperative that you watch diligently for deceit and deception among you. In a vision last night, my husband and I were looking on as a young lady dressed nicely, but whom we discerned as fake, approached two women walking by her.

Wolf

She beckoned to them for help and informed them that she was stranded. As the women went to her aid, they were consumed, as if they had vanished. A few minutes went by, and the trio emerged. The young lady now appeared with a mark of the devil. As she passed by our way, my husband and I held up a cross that glistened as a light in front of us. The young lady who now turned out to be a demon, went on her way with the two women, who obviously were unaware that they were walking with a demon.

Apparently the women did not discern this young lady as fake. Had they had the spirit of discernment, then they wouldn’t have been deceived to walk away with her. They were actually being led away by Satan.

Satan is very cunning and deceptive. He will bring things into your life, or people who appear to be the real deal, but instead it’s all fake. This is how the enemy will use deceit and deception to rob you of your joy, your happiness, your sense of belonging, your confidence, your health, your emotional well-being, your children, your marriage, your finances, your career, your ministry, your Christianity, and all that he knows you hold so dear to your heart.

You are like sheep in the midst of wolves. In order to survive, you have to be wise as a serpent, but at the same token, harmless as a dove (Matthew 10:16). In other words, evil will always be around, and you will always be in the midst of it. Nonetheless, you have to ensure that you are not walking gullible and naïve, thus leaving leeway for the enemy to deceive and destroy you.

“Touch of Faith”

Have you been recently diagnosed with an ailment that turned your world upside down? Have you been dealing with a sickness for which the doctors do not have any permanent cure? A “Touch of Faith” can heal you from your ailment and return your life to normalcy today, if you just believe on Jesus.

Mark 5:25-34 told us of a woman who had been suffering many years from an issue of blood. She had spent all she had on many physicians. However, she grew rather worse. She heard that Jesus was in her town healing other people, and she decided she would go out to meet him. When she got there, the crowd was very thick, and she could not get very close to him. She thought to herself, “If I could just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” She did just that, and immediately the bleeding stopped.

Jesus, on the other hand, felt that virtue had gone out of his body, and immediately knew in himself, that someone had touched him. He asked, “Who touched my clothes?” His disciples were thinking that he must be crazy, because there were so many people around him, and anyone could have just brushed against his clothes. But Jesus insisted that it was more than just a mere brushing of his garment by someone in the crowd. He sensed that someone had touched him with a “Touch of Faith.” So he looked around to see who did it. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing that she had been healed, came and fell down at his feet, and told him the truth. He then said to her, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”

A “Touch of Faith” can give you peace and heal you from your ailment today. It’s not over until God says it’s over. God sees you struggling with something today, and wants to tell you that faith can move the biggest mountain in your life, if you just trust and believe in him. He’s still in the miracle making business, and he’s still in the healing business. “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)  Do not let your fear overcome your faith. Chose which direction you want to go today. Your life depends on the direction you take.

It’s Only A Test!

Are you going through the roughest time in your life right now? If so, how are you coping? Are you about to give up? Are you thinking that God has forgotten your struggles? Are you thinking that you will never overcome these tribulations? Have you been spiritually attacked? Are you being deceived by the enemy? Have you lost something or someone precious? Are you dealing with a sickness that has no cure by the doctors? Are you waiting on God to connect you with your partner in marriage? Have you been trying to get pregnant, but has been unfruitful in your effort? Have you been financially depressed? Have you been attacked by the ones who you think should have your back?

God told me to tell you that it’s only a test! How can you be promoted from one grade to the next, without having to undergo any test? Take for example, in the natural world, where you have been in grade 6, and should move to grade 7. Would you just get to grade 7 without enduring a test? NO!

God is getting ready to promote you in your finances, your ministry, your career, your educational status, your singleness, your barrenness, your loveless life, your health, and all that’s on your wish list. But you have to pass your test. It’s only when you have completed this test, you will be rewarded. Bear in mind, that if you fail the test, you will have to retake it. You have got to press! If you do not press, you won’t see the glory of the Lord! The race is not to the swift, but to those who will endure to the end (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

The woman with the issue of blood pressed in to receive her healing. She had faith to continue to endure throughout all that she had been through. Without faith, it’s impossible to please God, and if you can’t please Him, He can’t reward you (Hebrews 11:6).

When God restores, He gives you the biggest, the best, and the greatest! So come on, it’s not time to throw in the towel. Wherever you are right now, it’s time to muster every ounce of strength in your body, so that you can make it to the finish line. It just take a little more of your effort, even though you think all your strength has been exhausted. His grace is sufficient, as His strength is made perfect in weakness ( 2 Corinthians 12:9).

When you think enough is just enough, you have one more test to overcome, in order for God to advance you to the next level. If you are getting overly exhausted, and you believe it’s just too difficult to get past this level, I would personally love to pray for you. Please email me at info@enoughtribulations.com, so I can personally minister and pray for you.

Grace and peace to you.

“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” Psalm 34:19 (NIV)

I have a dear friend whose husband didn’t want to be married anymore. Sure, she knew there were problems in their relationship, but this devastating news blindsided her. We prayed together. She sought counseling and even invited her husband along. Still, no matter her attempts to save her marriage, it was falling apart.

I’ve never seen her so helpless, so troubled, so lost. She was hanging on by a thread. I understand the darkness she was in and know the weakness and heart-wrenching pain because I’ve been there. Most of us have experienced terrible news that took us by surprise and left us hanging on by a thread.

Perhaps you’re there now. You may be experiencing a broken relationship. Maybe you need to be saved from some addiction or financial trouble. Whatever the case, you feel alone, scared and weak. Your situation is hard, wrenching and painful. You’re losing your grip on faith.

I could tell that my friend was losing her grip on her spiritual foundation. In her deep despair, all she had was a thread of hope to hang on to. What was that hope? It is the promise of God found in Psalm 34:19, “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.”

Valley I Grow

Sometimes life seems hard to bear,
Full of sorrow, trouble and woe
It’s then I have to remember
That it’s in the valleys I grow.

If I always stayed on the mountain top
And never experienced pain,
I would never appreciate God’s love
And would be living in vain.

I have so much to learn
And my growth is very slow,
Sometimes I need the mountain tops,
But it’s in the valleys I grow.

I do not always understand
Why things happen as they do,
But I am very sure of one thing.
My Lord will see me through.

My little valleys are nothing
When I Picture Christ on the cross
He went through the valley of death;
His victory was Satan’s loss.

Forgive me Lord, for complaining
When I’m feeling so very low.
Just give me a gentle reminder
That’s it’s in the valleys I grow.

Continue to strengthen me, Lord
And use my life each day
To share your love with others
And help them find their way.

Thank you for the valleys, Lord
For this one thing I know
The mountain tops are glorious
But it’s in the valleys I grow.

By Jane Eggleston

P.S.  Just a reminder, that the God on the mountain tops is the same God in the valleys. Hope you enjoy this poem.

Praying for Peace And It Does Not Come

  • I’ve been a committed Christian for over 40 years.
  • I’ve served in vocational ministry for over 30 years.
  • I’ve earned a master of divinity and a doctor of ministry.
  • I’ve preached over 1,000 sermons.
  • I’ve memorized hundreds of Scriptures.
  • I practice spiritual disciplines such as prayer, solitude, and fasting on a regular basis.

You’d think that with that spiritual pedigree, I should always experience God’s peace or at least when I lack it, should immediately regain it through prayer, quoting scripture, etc.

Not so in my experience.

One of my all time favorite scriptures is Philippians 4:6-7:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

That verse, as do many others, implies that when we feel anxious and lack peace, if we turn to the Lord, cast our anxiety on him, pray, and yield our wills to His, then emotional peace should readily follow.

When I’ve done these things, sometimes I have regained His peace. At other times I haven’t. Not only have these experiences perplexed me, but when I faced difficult times with our oldest daughter’s rebellion and chronic illness with our youngest daughter, no matter how hard I prayed and quoted scripture, peace would sometimes elude me.

When peace didn’t come, an accusing voice inside me would add to my misery by suggesting that something must be wrong with me.

Maybe I didn’t have enough faith (so I would try to muster more of it).

Perhaps unconfessed sin was in the way (so I’d confess any unknown sins that I may have somehow missed).

Possibly I didn’t pray correctly (so I’d reframe my prayers).

Mostly these techniques failed. So I soldiered on, figuring something was still wrong with me.

My neatly packed theology hit a brick wall. It was like when Neo in the movie The Matrix said, “Something was just not right, something was missing, something was lacking, something bothering me like a splinter in your mind.”

My spiritual coping strategies fell short. I don’t mean to imply that we reduce Christianity to pragmatism. We love and obey God simply because He is God and is worthy of our worship and allegiance. Even so, I finally allowed my honest questions to bubble to the surface.

Why, if I did the right things, did peace not come?

Then… I began to understand how our brain works.

I began reading about the brain and enrolled in a master’s program in neuroleadership (a process that applies neuroscience insights to leadership principles). I began to understand that our brain is not simply like a computer, but also like a pharmacy. It’s constantly releasing chemicals into our blood that profoundly affects emotions like peace, anger, fear, and anxiety.

I’m learning that I can be right with God in all respects, and yet not feel emotional peace in the current circumstance. What a relief to learn that lack of peace does not necessarily mean I’m messed up.

As a result of these new insights, I have begun to see how we can use this incredible gift from God, our brain, for healthy living and productive leadership.

Have you ever struggled with this issue? How are you dealing with it?
