Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel, which means God with us (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23). And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth (Luke 1:14). And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son (1 John 5:11).
A name is a personal identification and can have different meanings for some people. There is a special name that has a very powerful meaning. The scripture declares that she will bear a son, and you shall call his name JESUS, for he will save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21, ESV). Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11, ESV).
Jesus is the Savior who brought salvation to this earth. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11, ESV). Salvation is a free gift that God gave us through his son, Jesus, so that we can be saved from the consequences of our sins. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12, ESV).
Jesus is the reason for the season. Therefore, as we prepare for the celebration of Christmas, in honor of Jesus, remember the reason that he came to this earth.
In a perilous time such as this, where the world is in a turmoil, is war inevitable? There is no guarantee that war will cease, but there is a guarantee that you can have peace in the midst of war. The greatest gift that God has given us, is His son – Jesus. In light of this, amidst all the trials and tribulations of this world, Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33).
As Jesus made His entry into this world, there was a great rejoicing, because the prophesy has been fulfilled. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men (St. Luke 2:10-11:14).
As we approach the birth of Jesus, remember that there’s still hope and a future. Jesus came that you will have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Therefore, your enemy has been defeated by the power of Jesus. Remember the reason that Jesus came, that you will have life and have it more abundantly.
By and large, as you go through this season, reflect on Him as a savior who came not only to give you salvation, but to deliver you from all evil.
What if you see a sign which reads, “I’m Homeless and Hungry; Please Help Me!” What would you do?
This week a story caught my attention of a man who posed as a homeless and hungry person, in order to give away money to people who stopped to help him. See video below:
As I reflected on this week’s story, I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 13:2, “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.”
See the break-down of the criteria from the Scripture below:
Gift of prophecy
Understand all mysteries
Knowledge
Faith
Charity
Needless to say, I am blown away by the last criterion on the list. If one has such a wonderful gift of prophecy, in order to foresee and foretell things that will happen in the future, and can also interpret and relay the mysteries of God, which some people are oblivious of, and knowledge, which spans beyond comprehension, as well as faith so strong that it moves mountains, but have not charity, you have nothing. Charity means the voluntary giving of help, typically in the form of money, to those in need.
I am almost sure that this man who pretended to be homeless and hungry must have met so many rejections on the street, as opposed to the few who stopped to help. However, Paul instructed us to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).
As we approach the holiday seasons; there are many people who are less fortunate and maybe in dire needs. Seek your abundant blessings through giving, by helping someone.
We wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas!
It’s a season to be joyful. Therefore, give thanks for what you still have, and is able to do. Do not worry about what’s already gone, and you’re not able to do anymore.
Remember the reason for the season, and that Jesus brought peace, joy and hope to this world.
Whether you’re staying home for the holidays or you’re traveling, please be safe.
