Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
But those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

(Isaiah 40:28-31 NIV)

Are You Tired?

Today marks another Labor Day holiday in the United States. In celebration of this holiday, there are many people who have toiled and labored at their jobs, in the churches, in their communities,  as well as for their families and friends.

Speaking of labor, moreover, sometimes you have become weary and overburdened with a lot of cares and troubles that accompany this life. However, whether you are in the United States or another part of the universe, the Master of the universe is able to give you rest.

Jesus encourages you, “Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28).

In light of this encouragement, you do not have to carry your burdens alone, if you are tired. Jesus is there for you, if you seek Him to help you lighten your load.

God's help

In John 13:34-35, Jesus instructed us—His followers—to love others: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” As Christians, learning to walk in love should be a very high priority.

Unfortunately, we often love others only superficially—that is, we talk love, but don’t live love. James 2:15-16 addresses this problem: “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?”

If you say that you love someone, but don’t express it by what you do, then that “love” is worthless. Indeed, it isn’t even real love.

Likewise, 1 John 3:17-18 asks, “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” Here again, we are instructed to love with actions—not just with our mouth.

Follow the instructions of Jesus: love one another. However, remember that real love must be accompanied by actions, because love unexpressed is not love at all.

What if you see a sign which reads, “I’m Homeless and Hungry; Please Help Me!” What would you do?

Homeless and Hungry

This week a story caught my attention of a man who posed as a homeless and hungry person, in order to give away money to people who stopped to help him. See video below:

As I reflected on this week’s story, I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 13:2, “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.”

See the break-down of the criteria from the Scripture below:

  1. Gift of prophecy
  2. Understand all mysteries
  3. Knowledge
  4. Faith
  5. Charity

Needless to say, I am blown away by the last criterion on the list. If one has such a wonderful gift of prophecy, in order to foresee and foretell things that will happen in the future, and can also interpret and relay the mysteries of God, which some people are oblivious of, and knowledge, which spans beyond comprehension, as well as faith so strong that it moves mountains, but have not charity, you have nothing. Charity means the voluntary giving of help, typically in the form of money, to those in need.

I am almost sure that this man who pretended to be homeless and hungry must have met so many rejections on the street, as opposed to the few who stopped to help. However, Paul instructed us to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

Many resolutions this New Year will no doubt include financial blessings. Although this may be true, this New Year’s resolution list should also include how you can help someone who’s really in dire needs. In so doing, your blessings will be abundant and overflowing.

God bless you all!

Pray for the Philippines

Philippine typhoon death toll could reach 10,000. During this difficult time, we are calling all prayer warriors to Pray for the Phillipines

The Difference

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish, I didn’t have time to pray.

Rushing

      Problems just tumbled about me and grew heavier with each task;
Why doesn’t God help me, I wondered; He answered, “You didn’t ask.”

Heavy Object

I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn’t show me – He said, “But you didn’t seek.”

Grey and Bleak

                          I tried to come into God’s presence; I used all my keys at the lock;
God gently and lovingly chided, “My child, you didn’t knock.”

Keys-in-the-door

                           I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day;
I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.

When you are faced with terrible situations in your life, who you look to for help and advice will determine how well you will get over these situations. Sometimes the people you turn to do not have all the answers and solutions, and cannot even help you through the situation. At times, even if they do have some answers and solutions that would help you through the situation, they refused to help.

There are some situations that face us that only God can deliver us. The doctors might not have all the answers, your pastor might not have all the answers, your attorney might not have all the answers, your family and friends might not have any of the solutions either, and lastly, you might not be able to find a way out of the situation yourself.

However, that’s why it’s crucial to get your help from the source that is always sure. David knew of this reliable source, and that’s why he wrote in Psalms 121:1-2 “I will lift up mine eyes unto the Hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made Heaven and Earth.”

Therefore, when you are faced with any situation which deemed unbearable and unsolvable, just know that your help comes from a reliable and sure source – The Lord, which made Heaven and Earth.
