Do you believe the elimination of prayer in schools has anything to do with the Sandy Hook Massacre?
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested on Wednesday that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was tied to godlessness in contemporary American society.
Speaking to Brian Thomas of radio station 55KRC, Gingrich reflected on Friday’s shooting in Newtown, Connecticut which claimed the lives of 20 first-graders and six adults.
“When you have an anti-religious, secular bureaucracy and secular judiciary, seeking to drive God out of public life, something fills the vacuum,” Gingrich said. “I don’t know that going from communion to playing war games, in which you practice killing people is necessarily an improvement.”

When you are faced with terrible situations in your life, who you look to for help and advice will determine how well you will get over these situations. Sometimes the people you turn to do not have all the answers and solutions, and cannot even help you through the situation. At times, even if they do have some answers and solutions that would help you through the situation, they refused to help.
There are some situations that face us that only God can deliver us. The doctors might not have all the answers, your pastor might not have all the answers, your attorney might not have all the answers, your family and friends might not have any of the solutions either, and lastly, you might not be able to find a way out of the situation yourself.
However, that’s why it’s crucial to get your help from the source that is always sure. David knew of this reliable source, and that’s why he wrote in Psalms 121:1-2 “I will lift up mine eyes unto the Hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made Heaven and Earth.”
Therefore, when you are faced with any situation which deemed unbearable and unsolvable, just know that your help comes from a reliable and sure source – The Lord, which made Heaven and Earth.

The devil brings confusion, hurt, chaos, mayhem, strife, war, evil, and vengeance. He will want to attack your health, your finances, your children, your relationship, your job, and steal your happiness and joy.
The devil does not like to see people prosper and bless. Therefore, he enjoys your mayhem and tribulations, and if you do not stand up to him, you will allow him to get the better of you. By doing so, you will continue to walk in defeat. In light of this, you have to learn how to be a victor, and not a victim of the devil. When you throw a pity party, the devil sees that, and continues to follow you around, because he knows you are about to throw in the towel.
When you are under attack from the devil, and all hell has broken loose in your life, it is easy to just be weak, and feels sorry for yourself, but you should have a spirit of command and determination.
In James 4:7-11, there are some tools that you can use to help you to defeat the devil. The Scripture advises you to submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
For you to fully defeat the devil, you will have to first submit yourself to God. How do you submit yourself to God? You should draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. You should cleanse your hands from sins, and not be double minded. In other words, you can’t be saved and be a sinner at the same time. You can’t serve God and the devil. You have to chose one.
Joshua reiterated this to the people of Israel, “ And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
If God should ask you today to make a wish for one thing, what would you wish for? What would your desire be?
I can bet that some people would be wishing for all the things that the world has to offer, such as a brand new house, a brand new car, a husband, a wife, to be financially successful and be able to buy anything without checking how much it is, to be famous so that they feel important when others are noticing them, and the wish list could go on and on.
I will now share a true story with you of a man who could have gotten his wish for any of the above things of the world, however, there was just one thing that he desired. The Psalmist David knew that if he just seek after that one thing, everything else that he wanted, he would receive from God.
Therefore, he wrote in Psalms 27:4, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.”
David had that passion to seek the things of God first. He already knew that once he takes care of God’s business, God will take care of his business. David went on to be a great king, who was very powerful and successful in all that he did. He had it all, just by seeking after the one and only thing that matters most – God.
After it’s all said and done, whatever you have achieved from this world will not matter, if you have not received Jesus. The Scripture says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)
Have you ever felt like you can’t make it through whatever situation you are facing in your life? You may feel distraught and broken, and your strength might have begun to deteriorate; however, this is the time when you will need some supernatural strength to help you make it through. You have to depend on God’s grace and mercy to help you along the way.
The Apostle Paul knew that even if he could not overcome all the obstacles and tribulations in his life, that God’s grace is sufficient to keep him. In his letter to the Corinthians, he told them, “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
Therefore, you have to take comfort in the fact that you too can take pleasure in your troubles, as if you depend on God’s grace, and not your own strength to take you through your tribulations, you will be strong, even at your weakest moment.
One day a friend asked another;
“How is it that you are always so happy, you have so much energy,
and you never seem to get down, even though you have been through some much tribulations?”
With her eyes smiling, she answered her friend, and said;
“It’s a secret! I’ll tell you all about it, But you have to promise to share it with others.”
The Secret is this:
“I’ve learnt that there is little that I can do in my life that will make me truly happy. I must depend on God to make me happy and to meet my needs. When a need arises in my life, I have to trust God to supply all my needs according to HIS riches in glory. I’ve learnt that most of the time I don’t need half of what I think I do, to make me happy. God has always been there, even when others turned their back against me. He has never let me down. Since I’ve learnt this secret, I’ve also learnt how to be happy.”
The questioner ‘s first thought was, “The secret to happiness is just too simple.” But upon reflecting on her own life, she recalled how she thought a bigger house or a newer car would make her happy, but it did not! She thought a better paying job or more money in her bank account would make her happy, but it did not. She eventually realized her greatest happiness by being with family and friends, a beautiful sunny day, taking a walk, eating pizza, or reading a book – some very simple gifts from God.
We can’t depend on people or material things to make us happy. Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that. Trust HIM!
Now I share the secret with YOU, so you can share it with someone too! That GOD in His infinite wisdom will take care of YOU! But it’s not really a secret, we just have to believe it and do it. Sometimes we just put too much emphasis on money and material possession, and lose some simple gifts from God, such as our family and friends, and the opportunity to have a relationship with Him.

It’s only when you’re tested with tribulations, you will know how true you can hold to Christ during these tough times in your life. It’s so easy to love Christ when everything is going great in your life, but can you still love Him when you lose something so precious or someone so dear to you? Can you still love Him when you are diagnosed with a sickness that left you so bent out of shape? Can you still love Him when you are persecuted, or fall into great distress? Can you still love Him when you have zero balance in your bank account? Can you still love Him when you have nothing much left to eat? The list could go on and on.
However, no matter what your situation is, God is good all the time, and if God is good all the time, even in your darkest moment, He’s still good. His goodness does not change with your situation. You have to know that all these tribulations will occur in this world, and none of us are invincible to them. No wonder the Apostle Paul asked in Romans 8:35, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword? Paul knew that these things can seem unbearable to the point where you will question God’s love and commitment to you.
However, Jesus clearly stated in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
You will always have tribulations in this world. However, no matter what you are faced with, you can overcome it, if you put your faith and trust in Jesus, as He has already overcome the world, and everything that happens in the world.
So when you are faced with terrible situations, just know that you have a friend in Jesus who will wipe away your tears!
