Tag Archive: COVID-19

Today someone close to me witnessed a man on a bridge about to jump to his death. He said, “I can’t do this thing call “life” anymore.” Fortunately, the police came and dissuaded the man from jumping to his death. He was taken into crisis for evaluation and help. After hearing about this incident, I began to pray for the people who are in despair and feel hopeless because of whatever challenges or crisis that they are currently facing in their lives.

There are so many things that are happening in the world around us at this time. COVID-19 has devastated many lives and continues to have an impact on society today. There are natural disasters, such as tornadoes, flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires, and volcanic eruptions to name a few. There is a war currently unfolding in Ukraine, as Russia invaded that country. Furthermore, the UN reported that some countries are currently facing famines.

Jesus spoke about the signs of the times and the end of the age, as he sat on the Mount of Olives (Matthew 24). He told his disciples who asked him about the signs of the Lord’s coming and the end of the age that there will be many people who will come in His name, saying, “I am the Christ” and will deceive many (v. 4-5).

There will be wars and rumors of wars, but do not be troubled for all these things must come to pass. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these things are the beginning of sorrows. Christians will be hated, persecuted and killed for His name’s sake. Many people will be offended, betray one another, and hate one another. Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But those who endure to the end shall be saved. And the Gospel will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations and then the end will come (v. 6-14).

In the midst of despair in this world, you can still have hope. This hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in your heart by the Holy Spirit who was given to you (Romans 5:5). Jesus comforted you that you can have peace in Him; however, in the world you will have tribulations; but you should be of good cheer, He has overcome the world (John 16:33). You are reminded to cast your anxiety on Him because he cares for you (1 Peter 5;7). In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

God with Us

Matthew 1:23

In this era of uncertainty, as the world continues to grapple with the effect of COVID-19, you sometime wonder if you are alone, as you go through life’s struggles. Christmas 2020 may not be the same for you, as it was during other times. Your life may have changed as a result of a tragedy, such as, the loss of a loved one, a life-threatening medical diagnosis, a divorce, or a financial uncertainty. Regardless of such life-changing tragedies, there is one certainty that you can be assured of, and that is, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). This scripture highlights the joy that came into the world, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

It is comforting to know that with all the evil and uncertainty happening in the world today, that your hope is not embedded in this world. You have an eternal home, of which you are a citizen, as you are just a visitor on this earth. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20, ESV). Find joy, peace, and hope, knowing that, “God with us,” as you go through your journey here on this earth.

A Prayer for Joy, Peace, and Hope

Lord, Jesus, it is sometimes difficult to find joy, peace, and hope in the midst of life’s struggles and uncertainty. However, thank you for the reminder of Immanuel, “God with us.” Therefore, I look to you for that courage and strength to experience joy, peace, and hope, despite my circumstances. You are worthy of my praise, no matter what I am facing in my life. Help me to continue to pray and trust you to work through every situation that I am facing today.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank You Lord

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on the world. It can be difficult to see hope and be grateful. However, look for something to give thanks for every day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.

You are reminded that you should set your mind on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). As the world continues to experience the devastating effect of COVID-19, it is clear that your mind should not be placed on earthly things. This is because the things on this earth are not stable or lasting. The joy of the Lord should be your strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Therefore, when earthly things are shaken, you will still have your strength, because your joy is in the Lord, not the things on this earth.

You are reminded not to store up treasures on this earth, as they can be destroyed or stolen. But you should store up your treasures in Heaven, where they cannot be destroyed or stolen. For where your treasures are, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19-21).

In this world, there will always be trials and tribulations (John 16:33). The world will not be able to give you peace; however, Jesus has left peace with you, so let not your heart be troubled and do not be afraid (John 14:27).

It does not matter what is going on in this world; God is always in control. For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and he rules over the nations (Psalm 22:28).

To: You,

Today is Good Friday. It is a day where Christians remember the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.

Think back over the events of this week as if they were a computer text document.

Has this been a really tough week?  Have there been a lot of challenges and problems that you are glad you have simply survived?

Then, in your mind, press the “delete” key and let this week go.  It’s over.  Cease to focus upon it. Empty your trash file and leave behind the events of this week.

If, however, there have been some good experiences– experiences that brought you joy and satisfaction; or, if you overcame challenges which have now given you resources to live even more fully, imagine highlighting, cutting and pasting these events into a new document titled “Next Week.”  Set your intention now to enjoy the upcoming week to the fullest.

Lastly, if this week has been extraordinary, then consider saving it as a template for your future.  Create a file for this wonderful week and let it serve as a model for what is to come.
