“And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown” (1 Corinthians 9:25) NKJV.

The idea of being successful in this world today is to acquire power and position, which comes with financial gains. Everyone is competing for the next big break to win a crown. Notwithstanding, there’s nothing wrong with trying to achieve success. What is wrong is when people become overly greedy and zealous in putting all their emphasis on the material things of this world. These things are temperate, meaning that they are not lasting. As a result, the crown that one will win is a perishable crown. Those people who are committed to their faith, know that they run a race for an imperishable crown. Accordingly, this crown will take you beyond life on this earth.

Our culture glorifies celebrities, power, position, money and material things; however, these people and things are not lasting.  “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36) NKJV

On this earth, one has to strike a balance. You can aim for the sky, but understand that at the end of your journey on this earth, you have a report and accountability for how you spend your life while here. What will your report be? Have you fulfilled your God-given purpose? Or were you more caught up in the perishable crown phenomenon?

Let’s strive for an imperishable crown today.

On behalf of Overseer Ferguson, Minister Ferguson, Pastor Allison, Minister Bonner and Minister Blake, we would like to thank all our incoming churches, our members and community helpers who have been dedicated and supportive throughout our Annual Convention 2016. This convention has been a great success because of you all. A special thanks to Bishop Edwards and First Lady Edwards of Morning Star International Spiritual Baptist Church in Enfield, St. Mary, Jamaica. They have been at the convention almost everyday until the end.

God bless you all.

If you have been trying so hard to fight your own battles, but kept losing in the process, then you need to rethink your strategies. I am not telling you to sit back, and have others walk all over you. However, you have to get to a point in your life where you allow God to fight your battles for you. He will not put you in the front line. Instead, He will take all the darts, while shielding you. He is capable of facing your battles better than you do. Accordingly, the fight is not against your neighbors, co-workers, spouses, friends, children, families, or others you may meet along the way. The fight is against the ruler of darkness.

As the scripture highlights, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, your real enemy is not those around you, but satan himself. He is a spirit, and the ruler of darkness. He sets out to use anyone he can recruit against you, in order to have you defeated, depressed and discouraged.

Considering this, you are up against a spirit of darkness. Therefore, when satan knocks at your door, just say, “Jesus, can you get that for me?” Leave your battles up to the Lord. He will fight for you (Exodus 14:14). I used to try to fight my battles for myself; however, I have come to a point in my life where I have Jesus fighting for me. Consequently, I have been gaining a lot of victories.

When satan realizes that you are not taking matters into your own hands anymore, he will feel like you have given up. Notwithstanding, you have not given up, but have secretly given your battles to the Lord.

Exodus 14When you have done what you can, God will do what you can’t.

Have you fulfilled your God-given purpose? Or were you more caught up in the perishable crown phenomenon?

Let’s strive for an imperishable crown today.

In Matthew 13:44-46, Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”

Jesus tells about two men, both of whom sold everything for the kingdom of heaven. To those men, God’s eternal kingdom was so valuable that they were willing to give up everything they had in order to invest in it.

That’s exactly the same attitude God wants us to have toward wealth. Money is an excellent servant but a terrible master. Unfortunately, many people in society are mastered by their money, unable to control their greed.

Yet God is more important than all these things in the world. He requires that we be willing to sell all for Him.

Mark 10:17-22 tells the story of a rich man’s encounter with Jesus: As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good — except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'”

“Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

He owned great wealth, but really his wealth owned him. Remember that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).

This man’s heart was so attached to his money that his money owned him. His attitude is very different from that of the two men, who sold everything for the kingdom of heaven.

If, like this man, you become so hungry to own more money, be aware that really your money will own you.

Why Do I Feel Discouraged?

Sometimes the storms of life are raging so rough, and the heart easily gets discouraged. However,  as the song writer sings:

“No matter what storm clouds may rock this ship of mine, the light of my Savior will lead me safely through the night. Though my ship may be rocky and my sails may be torn I shall rest in the eye of the storm.”

Sometimes the bills are mounting, and the tribulations  seem like they won’t go away, but in Matthew 6:31-34 Jesus reminded you:

31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Jesus is clearly encouraging you that tomorrow has so much worries of itself, and it is already sufficient, so stop worrying about it, as you have too much on your plate. But instead leave tomorrow in His hands, and seek Him, and His Kingdom first, and everything shall be given unto you. So when the storms of life begin to rage, and you begin to feel discouraged, remember that Jesus is a provider and a deliverer!

“Only one life, ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last” (C.T. Studd).

The above quote depicts the important mission one has in fulfilling their God-given purpose(s), while yet alive on this earth.

God has created you with a purpose in mind, and that purpose should be fulfilled, in order to bring Him glory and advance His Kingdom. Nonetheless, there are people today who are busy trying to obtain fame and fortune, while putting God’s agenda on the back burner.

Although this maybe so, when all is said and done, if your fame and fortune cannot make a difference in the lives of others, in order to bring them to Christ, then it’s a wasted effort. This is so, because you are only advancing your Kingdom, instead of God’s Kingdom, in order to bring attention to yourself, have people praise and hold you in high regard, and receiving all the privileges associated with fame and fortune.

Don’t get this all twisted, God wants you to be successful, however, He wants you to put His agenda first, by seeking Him first and advancing His Kingdom. In so doing, He will reward you, by giving you the desires of your heart (Matthew 6:33). When you advance God’s Kingdom instead of yours, this will bring about a lasting effect. Most importantly, you will bring people to Christ and build up His Kingdom. Furthermore, long after you are gone, people will be inspired by how you have lived your life and the differences you have made in the lives of others.

God and His business should be first priority in your life. In so doing, whatever you do, you will do it unto the glory of God. By and large, He will be pleased with your effort in putting Him first, and you will begin to see how well things start to progress in your life and your affairs.
